Committed costs in Project Budget Balance in AX 2012

Hi All,

I have the following case (Giving with example)  and i need your help :

-  For Project Test i created a budget for X, and Y categories, and approved this budget.

- Then i created Purchase order for X, and  Z categories , and linked this PO to the Test Project.

-  When i checked the Project Budget Balance the committed cost appeared only for category X , and Category Z not appeared.

Does anybody knows why the committed cost does not appear for category Z, Is there any logic explanation for this case?

Best regards,

The first thing to understand is the parameter setup under the project module.

Thank you Bashir for this rich article :)

Actually, i did exactly the same as mentioned in the article, but i need to understand why the committed costs ((that belongs to categories which are not included in the project budget)) did not appear in Budget Balance Screen.

    Best regards,

Is budget is approved against all categories?

Once the budget is approved budget funds will get committed against the category. To view this click on Project budget balances button. Here we can view the project budget balances grouped by Transaction type, Category, Category group and cost template roll ups.

Yes the budget is approved for all categories.

Based on what i understand the budget balance screen doesnt show the committed cost for any category which are not in the list of the Project Budget.( e.g : as Z category in my example mentioned above)

I hope that i have got the point correctly :)

It is difficult to say with out seeing your project contract but I would look at the Funding rules on the contract and make sure that there is row that allocates to the appropriate funding limits funding source. The Project budget balance Commitment amount comes from the same table as the Project contract Funding limits Committed amount (PROJFUNDINGLIMITTRACKING).

It depends on the information you are looking for.  The term commitment is used in a couple of ways within the project module.

    1. Contract Funding Limits: Amount committed against a funding limit. (Table: ProjFundingLimitTracking)

    2. Commitment Tracking at a project level: This is enable on the project parameter settings by document type. (Table: CostControlTransCommittedCost)

Budget balance lines shown are only those which are part of the original or revised budgets.  If the category was not included in the budget process (e.g Category Z), it will not show any commitment amount on the Project Budget Balance form. Either at the category or rollup levels.

If you look at the project commitment form you will see the amount being tracked. (Cost Control - Committed Cost)

You can log a feature request change to include the non-budgeted categories via MS Connect.
