Is Estimation Possible through Standard AX 2012 R3 Project Management & Accounting Module?

Dear all,

I just wanted to know Is estimation possible through Standard AX 2012 R3 Project Management & Accounting Module especially for fixed price projects .We are getting answers from different ERP Partners in the UAE region that somebody is telling it is not possible and AX is not an estimation software and it is purely project management and accounting software.But some partners are telling through some workarounds or minor customization we can develop some utility and we can use the same for estimation purpose.Ours is a Water Construction Industry and we already designed some standard estimation template for our different business units and we are doing all types of projects like EPC,EPCO,BOO,BOOT etc. we need to do the estimation in AX and need to find the sales value from the system itself.

Appreciate if anyone can advise on this matter in detail?

Tough question to answer since I don't know all the different variables.

You can create Item Requirements, WBS and pretty complex Quotes in Projects for R3. These can be copied to prognoses and cost estimat for the project.

There are some issues with copying of customized texts in quotes to prognoses in R2, but it should not be hard to fix.

I my opinion AX 2012 R3 should work perfectly for your business. Some amendments might be required to fulfill all your special needs, but it should not be much work. Pretty much all you need is within standard.

Hello Faeez,

I agree with Frederiks opinion. AX has numerous standard features that can help you estimating and controlling projects. You can even calculate and post the earned value of your projects on ledger accounts & financial dimension and analyze it via standard accounting reports. It is just a matter of how you setup and use the project module.

Would be interesting to know more details on where your partners see some weeknesses that they believe needs customization.
