Is VMware supported for D365 on premise.?
Can we create service fabric cluster on VMware hosted environment ?
*This post is locked for comments
Technically any virtualization technology which are certified by Microsoft for Windows Server 2016 could host a Service Fabric cluster as per the documentation:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/service-fabric/service-fabric-cluster-creation-for-windows-server
Whether other technology could host those and if they are supported by Microsoft is a different story.
You also need SMB and other components too, see the system reqs linked by Sukrut.
Hello vilmos,
I have already gone through Microsoft link which you have provided.
I am checking possibility to install d365 on premise on VMware host.
As I have customer who is using virtualized environment using VMware.
As other applications are also running on VMware hosted environment it's really difficult to change complete infrastructure only for D365.
What are the difficulties or problem can come while installation of D365 on premise on VMware host ?
Hello sukrut,
As no where in any of the official document or link is not mentioned that VMware hosted environment is not supported.
I have gone through all Microsoft blogs and documents but not able to find anywhere they mentioned about VMware not supported.
Is there any work around ?
We will not be able to tell what will be the problems if you are using a virtualization technology which is not officially supported by Microsoft I am afraid.
Previously we have hosted our environment on VMWare ESXi for AX 2012 RTM without any issues (and physical SQL servers). I am currently using a Nutanix Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV) for virtualization for both AX 2012 R3 and SQL Server 2014.
VMWare lists Windows Server 2016 as compatible with certain versions of their products, but again, we will not be able to tell whether it is 100% OK to use with Server Fabric and SMB or not, unless you test it yourself:
https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?deviceCategory=software
I would like to remind you that it is not a best practice to mix and match virtual machines used for different purposes with your ERP system. Your ERP infrastructure should be completely isolated from any other environments including storage, network paths, database access.
Okay.. thanks for your suggestions.
As suggested I will test in current environment to see if I am able to install D365 on premise or not
Hello guys,
Now I have started configuration of d365 on premise
I have created virtual machines and also joined vm so now All virtual machines are connected to each other.
After this I have configured script for service fabric cluster
But I got a doubt. In which virtual machine I need to run this script to create service fabric cluster.
Or do I need to run this in every virtual machine.
Please help
Hi Raj
I am planning the pretty much the same setup as you, using VMWare as virtual host for D365 On Premise. Did you get further with this and what was you experience and pains?
Best regards
Thomas
