Dynamics nav 2009 iPad integration

Hello everyone. I'm currently working for a company using Dynamics NAV 2009 as there main system for controlling and managing on-going jobs. I would like to get the system to work on my iPad, so it's possible to view these informations on-the-go. As of right now, we're using remote desktop to open NAV, but this is (in my opinion) an out-dated and troublesome way of doing things - I've generally never been a real fan of Remote Desktop tools. So to the question: Is it possible to take this fairly old system an make it avaliable on the iPad app? Since I'm fairly new to NAV I really have no idea where to begin. As far as i understand - Wouldn't it be possible to just connect to the server that it's located on, and then via. A certificate or similar be able to connect? Any help would be much appriciated. Best regards Mikkel Nymand

MobileNAV is actually not a free software; you need to contact that partner in order to get free demo and learn more details about the solution and licensing options.

How would I use mobileNAV with Dynamics NAV 2009? I can't seem to find the proper informations - I got a database name, a domain and a username&password. It seems like it wants me to give information that isn't available.

I'm sorry for the newbie questions, but as i mentioned I never worked with NAV before, and I don't have administrator acces to the server it's located on.

If you are smart, nothing is impossible :-). There are plenty of walkthroughs for upgrade from 2009 to 2013 and to further versions, e.g. msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh169484(v=nav.71).aspx .

However it depends on the level of customizations made to your current database, and this task can finally be quite challenging. If you want to develop yourself and gain knowledge, go for that. If you company is depending on your result, I would recommend to do it with a trusted partner that has experience.

Allright. Thanks for the fast replys.

How timeconsuming/difficult would it be to update the entire system to NAV 2016?

As I'm not the current IT-supporter for the company yet, I would have to have a pretty fast and easy solution and an equally fast transition from the old system?

Would it be possible for someone whom has never setup a NAV setup before?

I've only worked with self-coded systems and similar - I'm mostly just a coder who got offered a job ;)

Microsoft started to introduce a mobile client only starting from NAV 2013, where you can also use a web client. In 2015/2016 versions there are quite good iOS clients available for iPad and iPhone. They are not available for NAV 2009.

If you want to use older version of NAV on mobile devices, there are 3rd party solutions, e.g. MobileNAV http://www.mobilenav.com/ . These are Hungary guys offering quite an interesting solution, which we used on few projects with good results.

    HI,

As NAV 2009 is no longer supported by Microsoft, I would recommend to upgrade to Latest Version.

With NAV 2013, NAV 2013 R2 & NAV 2015 - You can use web client as suggested by @vishal.

With NAV 2016 (Latest Release) - Microsoft have introduced a Phone Client which work seamlessly with Android, Apple and windows Devices.

NAV 2016 have some new features which you find useful, Read it here -

NAV has introduced Web Client in the latest versions, which you can easily run in Safari Browser in IPad.

Better you go for upgrade where you will get many of the advanced features / technology updates.

With the existing  NaV 2009 version, you should manage with remote desktop.
