Hi,
If someone says they have on-premises systems like HR,GP and CRM and they want to switch to Dynamics 365.
What does that mean? Does that mean they want to stop using these different d365 systems and use one which is D365FO? Or they want to keep using these three but they want them on cloud instead of on premise (assuming these three exist in cloud and on premise)?
And if I want to help them to do that what questions shall I ask?
Hi D365FO user,
Like mentioned by Morgan, there are differences between GP and BC. There are also differences between GP and F&O and F&O and BC. Like mentioned above, the choice depends on several factors.
An organization can certainly use D365 Sales or HR without Finance & Operations (or Business Central).
Each application in the Dynamics family serves a different set of use cases and functionalities.
Generally, I caution direct comparisons of products like Business Central is GP in the cloud, as the feature sets are different and depends on the requirements of your client.
Hi Andre,
Based on ur last sentence that if they want to go for d365 in cloud, then they have two options Finance or Business central.
Does that mean that they can't go for d365 for sales and d365 for HR alone? They need to choose between FO and business central as well?
Also I read that GP on premise is equivalent to business central on cloud..not 100% sure.
I'm not familiar with Dynamics GP and don't know details about the software lifecycle policies. For sure there is an end of support announced for Dynamics AX. Then it would be a risk for companies continue using the software as Microsoft is not testing for compatibility with newer Windows Server versions or SQL server versions. Microsoft may at a particular moment in time stop with security patches for outdated software. At that time, a company should invest in a new, supported ERP environment. This could be in the cloud or a new on-prem solution.
There is no push to switch to the cloud.
Depending on the current use cases at this customer, possible grow ambitions and if they want to go for Dynamics 365 on cloud, there are two options: Finance and Operations or Business Central.
Hi Andre,
So there is indeed d365 for sales on premise and d365 for sales on cloud ..same thing goes for others. Are they totally different(on premise systems and cloud)?
So you don't think they want FO, right? I would say crm on premise is equivalent to d365 for sales
And HR is equivalent to D365 for human resources, right?
But what about GP?
Last thing you said that maybe they have outdated software...so do u mean that on premise can become outdated and not supported? Which means people need to switch eventually to cloud..or what did u mean exactly?
Hi D365FO user,
You can ask what exact Dynamics 365 applications they have in mind. There are different SKUs available. E.g. Dynamics 365 Sales, Finance, Human Resources, SCM, Project Operations and more. I do assume they want to get rid of own servers and related maintenance and indeed use similar features in the cloud. Another reason could be that they are now running outdated software which is not supported anymore.
