User ID auto synchronization with active directory in MIcrosoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello everyone, our Navserver went down due to frequent power blackout. We have to start installing from scratch, from OS (win 2k8 server r2), to SQL (2012) to Dynamics NAV 2009 r2. After restoring database in SQL, is it possible that the USER ID's displayed in (tools/security/windowslogin) synchronizes or auto-detects with the corresponding User Name enrolled in the Active Directory? I dont have a hard copy of all (NAV) users ID as my reference in assigning corresponding ROLES. Screenshot is provided for reference.

I assume, you also created all Users in the new AD from the scratch. This will lead to different SIDs for your your users. Consequently, your existing SIDs in NAV will not match to the users anymore.

What I mean is the SQL server and AD server is in the same domain.

So even the AD is a new machine now. I'm Not sure if you add all the user on the new AD in the same way/Name it is added in the old AD will synch the old user in your NAV database. Its just an assumption if your old AD is the same as your new now it will be possible that if you add user in your new AD then your nav user synch automatic or synch it manually.

Hi Russel, our active directory and the Microsoft SQL  are on the same server. What do you mean in joining the new SQL server on the AD server?

You only reinstall NAV server and SQL server right? If that the case user on your active directory is still in AD, so if you restore the backup database to the new SQL server it will automatically synch the user on your active directory if you already join the new SQL server on the AD server.
