Hi expert, if we want to scan the item serial number instead of manually enter them into the system, is the NAV2013 capable of doing it without using the third-party software? How? Thank you!

Hi,
In Sales Order Form, You can certainly use "Item Tracking Lines" > Select Entries functionality. System will select the available Sr. No. from the list and would populate in the Item Tracking Form.
Here you can also scan the Serial No. using your scanner provided that, Serial No. is available in your inventory.
Please note that, in Sales Order form you can only choose the Serial Nos., which are available in your inventory. You can not create your own Sr. No. in Sales Order screen.
Try to create some scenario in test environment and see the result.
We have physical barcode attached on our products.
What we have done in the past is to use 'Create Customized SN' from the 'Item Tracking Line' to add the serial number when create a new sales order. Is there any way to scan the serial no from the serial number information table? When create an order, the user just selects the serial number from the serial number list (But It is not in the Item Tracking Line). Currently we cannot do anything but just use 'Create Customized SN' to add the serial number. BTW, from the Item Tracking Line, there is 'Assign Serial No' and 'Select Entries', but none of them are working. What is the purpose of these and how to use them? Thank you!
Hi,
In which all functionality / forms, you want to scan your Item No. using Scanner?
Do you have physical barcode attach on your products?
Are yoy planning to print labels from NAV system?
Can you please elaborate your exact requirements?
Do you want to use Item Tracking like Lot No. And Serial No. Functionality of NAV using scanner?
Thank you all experts! How much work of the customization? Install ADCS? When scan the serial number, do we need to install the font? Thank you!
Is your Item No. & Barcode No. are same?
If not, you need to do customization...
The scanner itself is just making an input of barcode numbers into the active field on your screen (where the cursor is). It is not related even to the software (you can have the same result in Notepad).
This means, that you will have e.g. the Search filed in the list of orders as active field where the cursor is; when reading the barcode, the barcode scanner will just create there a sequence of numbers in this field. Depending on the scanner settings, it can also press "Enter" at the same time when reading the barcode. It actually only automates the manual input of the same numbers into the same active field. Scanner is just another device as a keyboard.
So, there would be nothing magical in that. If you have you process setup the way that at certain moment you would need to enter somewhere a number that can be read from the barcode instead - it will do good for you. However such scanner itself will not generate any sophisticated logic behind the receiving process; it might only e.g. put a correct item code in the line of the warehouse shipment.
Do I need to set up something inside the NAV, e.g. warehouse setup? Just connect the scanner and scan it? When we first receive the items, we scan it. When we sell the items, we also scan it. is it right? Which table holds the information? Thank you expert!
If you want to capture only Serial Number, it should work without doing anything..
Thank you experts for your response! I want the simplest way. If we connect the scanner with the machine or wireless scanner, it should work without doing anything, right? I have ordered a scanner, and haven't received it. Thank you!
Basically, the role of scanner is to read a barcode which codes a certain sequence of numbers and transfer this number to a certain field on the page. It is not even a matter of NAV, but a matter of scanner which is a sort of another data input (as keyboard). E.g., some simple USB scanner will fit.
So, if you would have a scanner that would be able to read barcode sequence of numbers and letters (or just numbers, depending on the number of series you have), it should work without any additional NAV settings.
