How do the Language preferences work in FO? When the user selects a language preference does the system use the label file that corresponds to that selection?
Hi RSX,
Thanks for the additional details. You are in a development scenario for adding the language. If you want to add a language which was not implemented for a certain label file, you first need to add a language via Visual Studio. Then you can replace the created (empty) label file with the translated (fr-ca) label file. For adding the language, there are two technical options:
A: Add a language to a label file from which you own the customization.
B: Add a language as extension to a label file which is created by Microsoft or an ISV vendor.
You can read more about this on my blog: How to create a new language or country to Dynamics 365 for Operations (dynamicspedia.com)
For scenario A, read the overlayering part; for scenario B, you have to follow the extension part.
Hi Andre,
Yes, I understand.
I have a label file en-us now, which we will send to Microsoft to translate it to Fr-ca and we will receive the label file in Fr-ca language format.
My question is, Do I just add the translated Fr-ca file in project and Sync and build it and will that appear in the user options to be selected for Fr-ca and I just reload the browser?
How can I implement this in the project, so that all the labels created appear in FR-ca format?
Hi RSX,
When you change the default language in the user options, you must reload the application in the browser (F5). It will then create a new session with the new language.
Hi
I had similar question.
We have en-us label file and now we require fr-ca label file to be implemented.
Under user option > once we change the preference language to Fr-ca, it should update accordingly.
What is the step to make sure that fr-ca language is displayed as per the language selection.
Thanks for your reply and clarification. Yes, you can move them to the correct label files.

Hi Andre, thanks for responding. The context of my question is that we have some French labels in our English-ca label file. And, as a matter of best practice, we are considering moving those labels to the French-Ca label file.
Hi Brianmaric,
You can indeed use any label. What is the background of your last quick question?
PS, you can read more about labels and languages on my blog: Language Archives - Dynamicspedia.com
Thank You!
One quick question: These setting are preferences. I can still use any label in any label file on a form or report
Correct?
Hi brianmaric,
On user options preference there are Language and country/region preferences where "Language" manage the D365FO UI language and "Date, time, and number format" manage user local format for number and date and time in regards to the language.
You can add "&lng=en-us" to the D365FO URL to change the language for a specific form.
