VS 2017 - error "Your extended trial has expired", how to correct without admin?

I am using a VM to access VS 2017 to develop for D365 F&O and am receiving the message "Your extended trial has expired". When I try to enter the product key I am prompted for the admin password, which we do not have using the VM; does anyone know how to get this fixed? I believe the last time I had this issue and had to submit a support request with MS and they fixed the issue.

I have the same question (0)

Yes, if you're using a traditional product key then a Microsoft support ticket is going to be the only way. Almost all new licenses are sold using online account, so you just have to log into Visual Studio with your account and the license is applied that way.

Thanks, I wish it was this simple, "log into VS with your account and the license is applied". I'm logging in with my account, which I've always done and get that message. When I click "Check for an updated license" I get a message "We could not unlock VS with the accounts available...". The solution from MS when I had this error with VS 2015 was to install 2017, which worked for a period of time.

Visual Studio 2015 has a known issue with this. We'll have VS2017 soon on all new boxes. Are you saying you are seeing the same issue on 2017 that it cannot get a valid license just by logging in (assuming your login does have a license of course)?

Correct. I reported the issue in March 2020 with VS 2015 and the solution was to install VS 2017, which I did and was able to access the AOT. It's been a couple months since I've needed to access the AOT and now I'm getting the same error as before. I have a DEV license through my employer so I shouldn't have be having an issue.
