Licensing Requirements for D365

Hi all, 

We are trying to figure out the licensing for the below scenario:

We have created a custom app that will be integrated with dynamics 365 CE. The app that we have created allows internal agents to login and see info that has been pulled into our custom app using the dynamics SDK/API. It also allows those agents to edit customer info and those updates/edits will be made to CE via the integration.

The question we have is do all the agents that have access to our custom app need a license or can those changes be made with a single license (meaning all those changes in D365 CE would be performed by that single user)

    It depends

    • If the people that are using the App are internal users or are otherwise defined as part of your organisation as per the Dynamics 365 Licencing Guide then those users will need a licence (the licence type will depend on what is being done - e.g. you may be able to use a Power Apps Licence rather than a Dynamics 365 licence) - basically it doesn't matter what the interface is internal type users can't avoid being licenced (even if technically you can implement it) - if an Agent is internal or external from a licencing point of view can sometimes be difficult to work out.
    • If the people that are using the App fit in the External user bucket then they do not need a Dynamics 365 licence (but depending on Api usage you may need additional Api calls licences)
