Budget control is not applying in revenue type transactions, why?

Hi,

We are using budget register entries. But this is working on expense type accounts not on revenue type.

Is this a product bug or system deficiency?

Our customer is expecting revenue should be budgeted just like expenses.

Any setup I am missing to validate revenue budget? I have checked in parameter and looks like all set. If expense accounts are budgeting then why not revenue accounts?

Kindly help.

I have the same question (0)

Tushar Paul  this is not any system bug. This is default by design.

Question is why you want to do budget validation on "Revenue" accounts?

Appreciate if you kindly elaborate this.

    Hi Sourav,

There is no specific reason I can mention. Decision is by the customer who wants to do budget validation on revenue.

I have tried by using minus(-) sign and changing the type as 'Expense'. I assume this should consider in the opposite way means, Revenue. But this is not working.

As you mentioned, this is default design, then why this option is available if we cannot use it?

    Can you explain this please?

    Hi Tushar Paul,

I think below explanation from Microsoft will help you to understand why budget cannot be validated on "Revenue" accounts as this is not a realistic approach to prevent any user from creating a revenue goal.

    We cannot control revenue.

    Hi Tushar,

I would recommend that you revert back to your customer and ask why he/she needs this revenue budget and what he/she expects D365FO is your are below or above the budget.

As an example, let's say you budget a revenue of 1 mio USD.

If you create a sales order for 250000 USD, do you expect D365FO triggering a warning saying that you are 750000 USD below the budget?

In addition, if you have a sales or 1.25 mio USD, do you expect D365FO to warn or stop you from recording that amount because it is over the revenue budget?

Would be great if you could elaborate and come back with some additional information.

    Many thanks,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

    Not warning message.

We are expecting an error message. Same like what we see in expense type accounts when it exceeds the budgeted value. Usually such error message appears in a red colored bar.

So if my revenue budget is 1000.00 and I create any entry with 1001.00, system should stop me showing that error message that the value is exceeding by 1.00. Same like expense type case.

    Thanks.

    Hi Ludwig/Sourav,

Still I don't see any valid reason mentioned in the document created by Microsoft. If this is not practical to prevent user from creating revenue goal, then why this "revenue" option is still there in budget register entry?

Appreciate if you kindly share your thoughts on this!

    Thanks.

    Hi Tushar Paul,

The way you are expecting "Revenue" type is to be validated with such error message same like "Expense" type, is not possible to achieve in standard application.

At the same time, I will not recommend to go for customization as I am not sure what kind of complexity that may create in ERP.

As mentioned earlier, nobody wants to restrict their revenue generation. So, from that perspective, revenue is not getting validated through budgeting the way it is happening in case of expenses.

Better you can explain this logic to your customer why the functionality is not yet built even though the account type selection option in available in budget register entries form.

Else, you can approach to Microsoft to get a clarity on this further. As per my knowledge, Microsoft do not have any such plan to fix it in any upcoming version as of now. They may ask you to add this in Idea which will be depending on number of voting in order to take a decision on this in future if it becomes a global need!

    Sourav

    Hi Tushar,

Is that really what you want?

I always thought more revenue is better than less and why would you like D365FO to stop you from recording more revenue and get richer?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Friend,

Go to basic budgeting setup, and there is an option, revenue budget option

"Check revenue budget for zero budget balances

Select one of the following options if a budget register entry will cause a revenue budget to go lower than zero. Select the None option to allow a revenue budget to go lower than zero. Select the Provide warnings option to allow a revenue budget to go lower than zero, but provide a warning. Select the Prevent budget update option to prevent a revenue budget from going lower than zero."

select as required, this may resolve your point.

    Thanks&Regards,

    Ali Waqas
