Maximum capacity of floating bin in pallets

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi All,

Warehouse setup issue (directed pick and put-away):

We have the situation that products arrive in pallets. The products have a lot-number, expiration date.

One bin is exactly one pallet. The pallets can contain different quantity UOMs, depending on the item.

We will break up a pallet only when necessary, so when someone orders part of a pallet.

We use fixed bins but also want to use floating bins.

The problem is that i can only define capacity of floating bin in volume, not in pallets.

So when stock arrives it can happen that in the put aways a pallet will be broken up. That is not what we want.

The option 'allow breakup' has to be on because sometimes we need to break up a pallet.

Has anyone experienced this kind of problems \ questions?

Advice is welcome.

Thanks,

Patrick

    Hi Hannes,

    Thank you for your input.

I found out a different solution. In this way i don't even need pallets as a second UOM.

I use a custom field in table 5404 Item Unit of Measure that gives quantity of base UOM in a pallet.

In codeunit 7313 i changed CalcQtyToPutAway so that max.quantity to put in floating bin (empty) is PutAwayItemUOM."Quantity TU per Pallet".

So far this works fine for me.

    Thanks,

    Patrick

    Hi,

I can think of two different ways.

#1: Turn off "Allow Breakbulk" - At my current client, the warehouse operators do maintain the stock availability for certain UOM manually.

#2: Enter a dummy value for Cubage & Weight for the Pallet-UOM and Bins (e.g. for all 1000)

Alternatively, in the Table "Bin Content" is a field called "Max. Qty" which is utilizied for the Production Module.

Maybe it's possible to use this field in a customization to solve your problem.
