Default Inventory Status

I have the requirement to ensure that items that are received on a Purchase order cannot be picked or reserved to a Sales order until they have been put away into a bulk or picking location.

I think I should use Inventory status for this, but I am in two minds whether to use 'Blocked' or not.

In one scenario, I can see that an Inventory status (called, say 'Available') could be set on the sales order line. Items could be received on a PO with a different status, and the status changed to 'Available' as put away is completed. In this way, I don't think it is necessary to use a Blocked status.

Anyone have any opinions, either way?

    Hi Guy,

I was wondering if you had a look at the inventory paramter "Reserve ordered items"? If this is disabled you cannot reserve from not received purchase orders.

    Hi André

I have that turned off, since I definitely don't want to reserve items that have not arrived yet!

In Warehouse management functionality, POs can be received to an inbound location before being put-away. In the scenario where an item was out of stock, I want to ensure sales orders are not released to the warehouse for picking until the received item has been put-away.

I'm thinking that items in the inbound location will have the status 'Not available'. At put-away, the status will be changed to 'Available'.

I'm not sure if I should flag the 'Not available' status as a 'Blocking' status; I think that I don't need to.

I agree, does not look like for this particular case you need to block the inventory as well.

    Hi Guy,

To be sure the receipt list posting does not affect not put away stock, you can indeed create a separate inventory status.

Personally I think a blocking status is not needed for the 'Not available'. You can also name the status 'Arrival'.
