Hi guys,
This is somewhat not really related to D365FO, more on the Hyper-V maintenance, but since if I googling about this will be a lot more confusing, because I don't have technical background, especially in virtual machine, so I would like to ask here.
Thing is I have a Hyper-V which the VM or VHD downloaded my self from LCS.
Question is after all the setting and it works inside, what to do to make my VM back up and secured ?
I noticed when the VM running, there is a file created with extension .avhd.
Is it important to backup this file as well ? and what else ?
And what exactly the /checkpoint/ that displayed in Hyper-V manager doing ? and what should we do about it ?
I'm questioning this, because after sometime using this, there are lots and lots of problem in the way like :
- cannot start because of the checkpoint.
- cannot start because it says the missmatch.
- cannot start because the VM in saved state.
There are bunch of issue that holds my works because my VM cannot start, and often I have to build again my VM from the scratch. There is also one time, I build again my VM from scratch, followed the setup inside and all looking good. then I've copy this newly created VHD file for backup. The next day some problem arise, so delete my VM (delete the VHD) then copy back from my backup. When it is up, what I saw inside is like a brand new downloaded VHD which I need to setup again, it's like when I backup is not the latest.
Appreciated if someone can advice me what the correct way to do some maintenance job or just do the backup correctly (means what to backup and how) ? The end result I expected is only I have my VM backup, so if something happened, I can just delete the failed one (which file to delete also in question) and just restore from the backup and continue work.
Sorry if it too much question.
Thanks.
