    Hi Partner,

    Here are the difference.

1.Custom workflow could be triggered  by standard workflows available in CRM, that make the custom workflow triggers limited(only Create, Update, Status Change, Delete and On assign).

While plug-in will be triggered based on entity events, it havs a number of triggers availble (called as Steps/Message) to trigger the plugin execution.

So plug-in could satisfy more complex business logic.

2.Custom workflow could be configured with visual  interface but plug-in could only be developed by Visual Studio and registered by Plug-in Registration Tool.

So custom workflows are much more user-friendly for non-developers.

3.Custom workflow could be triggered manually (on-demand) like other workflow but plug-in could only be triggered by entity events.

    Hi,

Apart from what mentioned above I would like to add one other point

The 2 minutes time limit is for plugin, if you are executing a custom workflow it does not have 2 minutes limit. It means your custom workflow will run for long time.
