Unit conversions for Product Variants

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi, I have seen that maybe with Microsoft Dynamics Ax 2012 R3 CU8 it is possible to define Unit Conversions for Product Variants and not only for the main Product.

Could someone give some Feedback about if this is true? Or maybe only applicable in certain Modules of Ax like Warehouse or Retail?

Thanks!

"You can set up conversion rules that control how units of measure are converted to different units of measure for product masters and released products. For example, this is useful when you receive products in one unit of measure, such as eaches, and want to handle them in another unit of measure, such as pallets. If you’ve installed AX 2012 R3 CU8, you can also define conversion rules for product variants. The process of setting up unit of measure conversions for product variants, and then subsequent behavior, is the same as for product masters and released products."

But if you call UnitOfMeasureConverter::convert you can specify a record id from EcoResProduct.

So you may specify the Recid of a variant.

But you dont want to write your own code? Just looking for a process in AX which actually uses this logic?

    Thank you for your reply!

The fact is that whenever the conversion is called the product variable is set to InventTable.Product value which is a reference to a Product master , not a product variant

Actually there is a record for every variant in EcoResProduct (+a record for the product without variant). They differ in relation type.

So you have to use the Recid of the correct record there.

You should get the Recid with the method InventTable::getDistinctProductRecId(_itemId,_inventDim)

    Hello,

I have a simillar issue on using unit conversion on product variants on Microsoft Dynamics Ax 2012 R3 CU11.

After enabling the unit conversion by product variant from Product masters I'm trying to find a process in the standard application that actually uses the conversion per product variant (not per product master).

UnitOfMeasureConverter and UnitOfMeasureConverter_Product are the classes used for conversion but whenever their methods are called the Product RecId used is the one from InventTable.Product which points to the Product master RecId.

Does anyone know a flow on which the product variants conversions are actually used?

    Thank you!

    That is great. Thanks!

Just asked around. Expect a demo script published in around a week's time on this. I will post the link here when that happens.

The blog post I mentioned is actually not about variants, sorry about that. It's about product confirmation step during warehousing operations

Thanks! That´s is what I supposed. Would it be posted at your blog (http://kashperuk.blogspot.de/) ? At the moment I have not found that Whitepaper.
