"You need a Microsoft Dynamics 365 security role to continue"

We are getting following error when user is trying to access social activity entity in Dynamics CRM.  We are using the default "marketing" role that comes out of the box with Dynamics 365 CRM.  It is very unusual, because we can access these same entities while logged in with administrator role.  Also having this same error accessing these other entities listed below too:

  • Social activities
  • Campaigns
  • Campaign responses
  • Quick Campaigns
  • Marketing Lists

The user is a member of a team that has a security role that was cloned from "marketing specialist" role that comes with Dynamics.  We are at a loss and need some suggestions of how to resolve this error.

    Hi,

    Can you assign the security role directly to user and see if it works. I am unable to find any documentation but I think the user needs to have atleast a direct role so log int. If this works then you can create a base role and assign it to user. And then the other security roles can inherit from teams.
