I am a new programmer, and also new to CRM. I have been tasked with auditing search criteria entered by all users. I do not see functionality to do so. What can be done to audit user searches? My first thought is to create an entity "Searches Requested" and to write and install code (Java) to fill this entity when a search is performed. Can someone assist me in a direction that would help? Thanks in advance.

You can use controls like This Xrm Audit Viewer with more check box regarding to operation and information about the entity.

For this you can create a Custom page and add it to your power apps.

Yes, this tool does not include auditing search criteria used by the user.
