Upgrade directly from GP 2015 yearend 2019 (14.00.1230) to GP 2016 yearend 2019 (16.00.0814) NOTE#7 clarification

Posted on by 150

Can someone clarify what does "Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 (16.00.00716) or later" means in NOTE#7 (see link below) ?  Does it mean upgrading from GP 2015 yearend 2019 (14.00.1230) directly to GP 2016 Midyear 2018 (16.00.0714) is the only supported path?  Is upgrading from GP 2015 yearend 2019 (14.00.1230) directly to GP 2016 yearend 2019 (16.00.0814) not a supported path?

"7. There is no direct upgrade from Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 to Microsoft Dynamics GP . You must first upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 (16.00.00716) or later and then upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics GP."

We are trying to reach the target version of the latest version of Dynamics GP, which is 18.2.1060 (Feb 2020 Hotfix) currently.

    Hello Janet,

There has been some confusion on this, so I wanted to answer:

As far as your question on the correct upgrade path from the Dynamics GP 2015 R2/2019 year end update version (14.00.1230) to 18.2.1060 that you mentioned you were/are trying to upgrade to:

    1. Per the ‘Upgrading to Microsoft Dynamics GP’ hot topic, there is no upgrade path from anything prior to 16.00.0716 to be able to upgrade to 18.2.xxxx.

             mbs.microsoft.com/.../HOT_TOPIC_MDGPUpgrade

    2. Per the ‘Upgrading to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018’ hot topic, there is no upgrade path from 12.00.1230 that you’re currently on. The reason for this is that because 14.00.1230 is the 2019 year-end release for Dynamics GP 2015, you must then be upgrading to the 2019 year-end release for Dynamics GP 2018, which in this version of GP, is the 18.2.1036 version

                   mbs.microsoft.com/.../HOT_TOPIC_MDGP2018Upgrade

    3. Because we do not have a supported path for an upgrade from Dynamics GP 2015 (14.00.1230) directly to 18.2.xxxx, and there is no upgrade path from 14.00.1230 to any 18.00.xxxx version of Dynamics GP 2018, the only supported upgrade path, which is what I wanted to clarify here, is the following:

    >>Start with your current 14.00.1230 for Dynamics GP 2015 R2 system and upgrade to the equivalent 2019 year-end release for Dynamics GP 2016, which is any of the 16.00.0814 version releases, though I would recommend the MicrosoftDynamics16-KB4528417-ENU.msp option, unless you have Canadian Payroll installed on your GP environment.

    >>Once you get to 16.00.0814 for Dynamics GP 2016 R2 which again is the 2019 year-end release, then you will need to upgrade to the equivalent 2019 year-end release for Dynamics GP, which is 18.2.1036 or later. Our most recent release is 18.2.1060, which is what you mentioned you were looking to upgrade to.

Let me know if you have any questions.........

    Thank you,.
