Use of "Doc. No. Is Prod. Order No." in Mfg Setup ?

Posted on by 6,578

In Manufacturing setup there is field "Doc. No. Is Prod. Order No." of type boolean, what is the use of this field and how to use this.

I have check C/AL code in tables and codeunit but didn't find any thing.

On MSDN there is not so much of clarity https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh177081(v=nav.80).aspx

Has any one used this setup ?

    Hi Manish,

The goal of the option in the Manufacturing Setupis to give you easier traceability on the Item Ledger Entry side. The system accomplishes this by making the Document No. for the ILE the same as the Prodcution Order.

This is accomplished by the system populating the Doc.No. on the appropriate journal(s) with the Released Production Order No. This is the means to the goal, not the goal itself.

What you replied is also correct, we can check how may times we have posted for a particular production order.

    Thanks AJ,

Actually if we do not place a check mark in mfg setup for "Doc. No. Is Prod. Order No." ,then when we go into production journal document no. is blank, and if we place check mark in "Doc. No. Is Prod. Order No."  then in production journal document no. is default set to production order no.

    Hi Manish,

The MSDN article you've linked to actually does a pretty good job of explaining the purpose of this field.

    Still, let me elaborate:

As a user, it does not change how you use the Manufacturing module per se, but enabling this option on the Manufacturing Setup ensures that when you are chasing down Item Ledger Entries, it will be easy to find entries that have came about from Production Orders (such as consumption postings). This is because the Released Production Order No. is used as the value for the Document No. field in the Item Ledger Entry record.

If you don't check this field, you'll spend a little more time chasing the link between an Item Ledger Entry and its source Production Order (likely using the Navigate function).

    I hope this helps!
