We understand that the system allows modification of the transactions by the workflow approver. But it appears to restrict the fields that the approver can edit, while approving the workflow.
We would like to have a few more fields to be editable by the approver during the workflow. Can we modify the workflow code to allow editing certain additional fields.. please advise.

If the approver can change a record that he/she has to approve then you don't need an approval workflow in my opinion.
Can you elaborate on this requirement?

In my opinion, an approver is a person who needs to verify and approve a workflow. Can you tell which exact workflow you are referring to and what fields should potentially be modified and why?
We want to allow modifications in Fixed Assests workflow.
Out of the box, there is no Fixed Assets workflow. Can you tell the purpose of it? It seems like your requirement is more like someone needs to review a record instead of approval.
