Help with customer card add-in

Hi,

I recently started using CI platform. I am using the sample datasets provided in the documentation and trying to export the contacts to D365 customer service with

the help of customer profile add-in. I am following this - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customer-insights/audience-insights/customer-card-add-in

and did the steps mentioned below but I do not see any change in the customer card after applying solution upgrade.

Do I have to import the contacts that I've added in D365 to CI via Common Data Model ?

Here's the reference video I am following - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5b9swAQGWo

Please help me with this.

Thanks and Regards,

Ash

Thank you for reaching out. I first would like to understand your setup and what you want to achieve:

Sample data: Are you using the data linked under "Exercise 2 - Ingest data into Customer Insights" on Exercise - Create a Customer Insights instance, ingest data, and unify data - Learn | Microsoft Docs? If not, please share which ones for context.

Which of these goals are you aiming for?

A: See CI data within another Dynamics 365 service when viewing a contact/profile like Dynamics 365 Service or Dynamics 365 Marketing?B: Export segments from Customer insights to other Dynamics 365 services like Dynamics 365 Marketing?

How to achieve these two goals:

Prerequisite for both A and B is that you have a Dynamics 365 service with contacts. This Dynamics 365 data needs to be ingested into Customer insights. As the video you referred to shows the contactId GUID is needed to map data between CI and the source Dynamics 365 service.

    • To achieve A this GUID mapping is used by the respective Dynamics 365 web app (e.g., Dynamics 365 Marketing) to lookup data from Customer insights. That lookup happens from the “customer card-add in” control, which needs to be installed as explained in documentation.
    • To achieve B this GUID is what CI will export as a list of ids to Dynamics 365 Marketing. The segment will then be available for processes in Dynamics 365 Marketing.

Note that the solution to both A and B does not create or update contacts in these targeted Dynamics services. Let us know here if you would like to know more about this scenario.

Thank you Nils. That was really helpful.

Can I export the contacts from D365 as CSV manually and ingest into CI then perform the unification process or should I follow a different approach ?

Also, through customer card-add in can I also see the contact's activity data (purchase history, reviews) on other services like Dynamics 365 Marketing ?

This is the data I am using:

    eCommerce Contacts - aka.ms/ciadclasscontacts

    Loyalty Scheme  - aka.ms/ciadclasscustomerloyalty

    Online Purchases  - https://aka.ms/ciadclassonline

    POS Purchases - https://aka.ms/ciadclasspos

    Website Reviews - aka.ms/ciadclasswebsite

Yes, you can do what you want though this is a bit of a process.  Since you did not ingest the contacts from D365 into CI as a data source you must do the following:

    1. Download the Customer entity from CI as a CSV.
    2. Import the contacts into D365
    3. Create a data source in CI for the D365 contact entity.
    4. Use the new D365 data source in the M3 process to connect the D365 contacts with the CI contacts (and thus get the GUID from D365 into the Customer entity)
    5. Go through the setup of the CI Contact Card in D365

Hope this helps, we go through this exact process in our training course.

    John

Thanks John. I'll follow this. Where can I find the training course ? It'd be really helpful if we can find the updated training material.

If you are a partner you can find a recording of the class to view on demand here:  partner.microsoft.com/.../dynamics-365-customer-insights-foundations

You can also find the training materials on https://aka.ms/cipartner

Note that the materials have not been updated yet as I need to package up the zip for them to publish. Hope to have them updated soon.

    Hi John,

I am not sure if we are registered as partner as we are an internal team at Cognizant exploring the platform. We do have some partnerships with Microsoft. Is there a contact that we can approach to verify or register if needed ?.

Also when I followed the steps that you've mentioned (Importing the CSV, Performing M3, and following the steps mentioned in the documentation) I am still getting the attached error. I've also added the error log. Please let me know if I am missing something.

    Thank you in advance.

It looks like you already have the Customer Insights Customer Card Add-in installed in your instance. You would simply need to confirm the configuration is setup correctly in this case.
