Product family- How to benefit?

Hi,

All help is now lot appreciated! I'm currently updating our CRM and having trouble understanding Product family feature. I'm able to create the product structure in products. I'm from project organization which mostly sell service products. I have three dimensions in products: Product Group -> Product Family -> Product. The problem is adding product to opportunity. Lets say I don't remember the product name but I know the Product family. I want to be able to write the name of Product family while adding product to opportunity and see all the products under it. I don't find any video or advice about the subject and I find it weird... I only find advice how to create product family but absolutely no advice how to benefit from it.

Is there some other way to do this if using product family structure isn't possible? Using some metadata fields for searching for example?

Hi,

Product families are designed to be used with the product properties feature - so the product inherits the properties of the family - they are not really intended as a hierarchical searching mechanism (although that would be awesome)
