Retail : payment charges on cash payments

Hi everyone,

We need to setup a charge when the customer pays using Cash payment method. I saw articles showing how to setup charges on card payments, but what we need to do is set up payment fees (percent of the amount) on cash payments, and only on cash payments.

There are no sales order creation at the POS, so we need to set this up on cash and carry transactions.

Does anyone have any idea how we can do this ?

You want to add a % of the sale penalty if paid in cash? As a customer, I would be incredulous and looking for another supplier. Either don't accept cash at all or absorb the cost of doing so. The downside of penalizing (ill will, negative word of mouth) can far outweigh the other option.

Hi Nary,

Looks like the scenario you describe is not supported by standard POS, so you need to customize your POS.

Hi Christine,

Actually, it's a local legislation requirement : any cash payment generates cash fees, otherwise the company will be penalized by authorities (i guess this is meant to encourage card or check payments, to minimize cash flow). This applies to any supplier. We can't force the customer to absorb this cost, and almost all the retail companies actually apply this cash charge, including supermakets etc. So there is no real issue about losing a customer or not.

In any other context, I would agree with you, all that you said perfectly makes sense but we do not have the choice here... Anyway, thank you for giving your point of view.

Hi Oksana,

Thank you for your feedback. I was hoping to be able to do this without any customization, I was trying to use some standard functions (even functions that are meant to do something ele) as wrokaround, but none worked so I guess you're right, we'll have to look for a customization.
