Hi,

Start from 8.0 PU 15, we no longer can install power bi desktop in development environment.

Does anyone try to access UAT axdw database with Power BI Desktop? Is that possible?

I had tried using the method to login axdb database to login axdw, but no luck. It kept saying wrong password for sqladmin and axdwadmin.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks.

Regards,

Teh

You can't connect to the database from the outside. In UAT you can access the database from the UAT VMs but not elsewhere. And in prod you can't access the from anywhere.

What are you trying to achieve?

Also you can install anything you want on the dev VM as long as it's hosted by you (in Azure or locally). But for MS hosted dev environments you have only limited access.

Yes, I know cannot connect from outside. I was in the UAT VM itself and tried to use the same way to connect to axdb from UAT, but it seem cannot work.

In newer verison, we no longer can install power bi desktop in dev environment. So was trying to see any other method to develop embedded Power BI report with UAT environment instead of hosted locally or in Azure.

Yes you can connect to AXDW Database for UAT. Make sure you are putting in the correct server and database from LCS. Also you need to add .database.windows.net to the end of your server name. I am connected using the axdwadmin credentials.

    Hi

I am unable to understand where I might have gone wrong. I have tried accessing the RDP of the BI server.

I used the server name as provided on LCS added .database.windows.net at the end

and the user name and password for axdwadmin from LCS.

Where are you connecting from? My understanding is that you can't access the UAT database from outside of the UAT VMs.

The LCS setting for access only enables RDP connections to the UAT server. It doesn't enable SQL access to the UAT database.

I am trying to access the AxDW from within the remote desktop. I am able to connect to Remote desktop but there I am unable to connect using the Axdwadmin credentials in SQL

Try connecting to the database using Power BI Desktop with the credentials.  servername.database.windows.net , databasename(Make sure you do not enter (AXDW) , axdwadin and password. I can connect using Power BI Desktop but I can't access the db with SQL Management Studio. You must be using Power BI Desktop from within the UAT VM.
