Upgrade to NAV 2016 from older versions

Hi Dynamics NAV Team,

We are working on one of the project for our customer to develop connectors (Integration Adapter), which would enable the end users to quickly integrate cloud and on premise applications.

To start work on this, we have couple of queries:

1) If users are using Dynamics NAV 2015 or other older versions with SOAP services, is it possible for them to use Dynamics NAV 2016 SOAP webservices? Are Webservices in NAV 2016 compatible with older versions of NAV 2015, 2013, 2013R2 or 2009?

2) Do they need to upgrade their setup with latest version to use 2016 SOAP services?
