Goal Achievement Dashboard

Posted on by 60

Hi there,

We are currently looking into ways to visualize the goal achievement of our sales members and we could not really find a solution that fulfilled our expectations. Therefore, I'd like to start a discussion on how this can be done and to see if there are any best practices/approaches that we could adopt here.

Our expectations are as follows:

  • Individual sales member goals should only be visible to the team member itself, to his managers, and to management positions - a sales member shall not see the goal for a colleague
  • The goal achievement should be accessible directly from within Dynamics 365
  • The goal achievement should be visually appealing and customizable
  • Option to switch time horizon (year vs. quarters vs. months)
  • Three levels of visibility
    • Individual goal achievement - individual team member and his goal achievement
    • Manager goal achievement - a teams goal achievement with the option to drill down for the manager
    • Global goal achievement - complete goal achievement on a company level - accessible to management

I have found the OOB documentation on saving goals in the system. However, I did not really find a nice way to actually visualize the results. I have considered the following options:

  1. Use the built-in charts, but I have the feeling that those are rather limited in options - also embedding this in Dynamics Dashboards always looks a little "outdated"
  2. Use embedded PowerBI dashboards - would certainly give us great flexibility and customizability, but unsure if the permission topic can be addressed correctly
  3. Build your own dashboard, either via Canvas Apps, custom pages, or a PCF - most complex solution would like to avoid due to maintainability and dev effort

Am I missing some options? Did anyone else also face the same challenge? How did you solve this?

Would really appreciate input and discussion on this.

Best,

Flo

    Hi Flo,

Great discussion started. As you mentioned in the first option you are correct that the built-in charts/OOB Dashboards are very limited and likely won't best serve your team's needs or be very visually appealing. I'm facing a similar situation and have found PowerBI is the best route however, I am in the very early stages of exploring how we could create and embed these within our Dynamics environment. Believe an Administrator role is necessary in order to have this setup properly. PowerBI will be easier to connect to your existing Dynamics data vs trying to connect the data via a Canvas App or another custom solution. This article has some good background going the PowerBI route and how to connect PowerBI and Dynamics Sales - learn.microsoft.com/.../configure-sales-template-apps. Regarding how to set up the data for personalized views and not display everyone's data, this thread touches on that subject - community.dynamics.com/.../power-bi-report-data-based-on-the-logged-in-user-in-d365-portal.

Interested to hear what others in the community can share related to this topic.

    Best Regards,

    Chris

    Hi FlowwithoutW,

Regarding how to control each member's view,

you can create a special role and assign them the lowest privilege on the corresponding record,

which will ensure that they can only see their own records.
