We have a company that needs the ability to print statements with a different name than what is in GP – is it possible to have multiple names (such as possible with checkbooks) that you can choose when printing statements for customers

How many different names do you need?
Technically, you can change the Company name in your Statement report using Report Writer. There are different Forms in Statement: Long Form, Short Form, On Blank Paper - these forms can have it own company name. If you go to Sales >> Routines >> Statements >> Form (drop down list) you'll those options.
I think this is a good starting point to explore further.
