Lead Creates Duplicate Contacts

Posted on by 9
I'm having a problem when creating a new lead with an existing contact.
The auto-detect feature asks me to merge this new lead with an existing lead if they share the same contact. Otherwise, I have to choose /Ignore and Save/, which would create a duplicate contact.
How to stop lead from creating duplicate contact in this situation?

    Hi User,

Can you check existing duplicate detection rule? Because this will shown if system will have the same contact record with same email id or any other field which is mentioned in duplicate detection rule. You will have 2 options either merger it or ignore and save. Ignore and save will create a new contact with the input details. And merger will make sure to merge 2 contacts in to 1.

    Thank you,

    Hi,

You can see the system predefined duplicate detection rules for the lead entity in Advanced Settings -> Data Management -> Duplicate Detection Rules.
If you haven't added a custom duplicate detection rule for the lead entity, the duplicate detection rule you are experiencing should be this one.

This duplicate detection rule detects only the Email field of the lead entity and detects if there are lead records with the same email address.

In the test, duplicates were automatically detected for lead records with the same email address, regardless of whether they had the same existing contact.

Therefore, this detection rule is contact-independent and does not create duplicate contact records.
