Create New Table on AX DB directly through MSSQL (not using AOT)

hi there,

i found one of my client "directly create new table on AX DB through MSSQL" that's mean not using AOT to create the tables. They use the tables from custom app outside AX (obviously they can not use from AOT because AOT did not recognize all the tables).

i think this is very dangerous but i don't have any valid technical arguments, could you guys please share any valid technical arguments regarding this dangerous situation? or maybe this is not dangerous at all?

I know some times client wants table which are not required in AOT for example in the case of  Data integration without AIF. Data comes into staging tables, and then some routine read data and push them into actual AX table with AX run time.  But this solution is dangerous  one and not recommended from exports. And these non ax tables will create problem during upgrade AX to latest version.

    hi guys,

thank you for all the feedback.

i still did not get the "precise" answer from my client about why they put the tables in AX DB.

Hi I agree with the guys above.

I would also question the client and ask why he would want the tables in the AX database if they won't even be visible to AX unless they are in the AOT. Rather move them into a different DB or create them via the AOT and preferably expose access to them via Webservices (AIF)

    Hi Ismail,

Any table created in SQL server directly will not be visible to AX and the table will be deleted after sync as Piyush mentioned, so if your client really wants to create a table directly from their app, then ask them to create in any other database not linked with AX, otherwise table will get deleted everytime database sync happens.

Please let me know if you have further queries in this regard.

    Thanks,

    Baber.

    Hi Ismail,

Please understand from client what they want to achieve doing this from business standpoint. If he wants to use this table in any external application, then its fine if table creation is directly happening through database. But every time sync happened, table will be lost if its not in AOT.  If he wants to use that table in AX classes, forms or in any other AOT objects then definitely he cannot use that table.

Convince them about business impact, technical argument wont work if client is not a single percent technical. Or you can talk to their AX technical team in this regards.
