Seeking Advice on Handling Duplicate Voucher Numbers in GL Journals

When creating a new GL journal, the system attempts to use a voucher number that has been already used.
Note : The number sequence is already set to continuous
Please note that this voucher number has already been used in another journal and its been posted. But there's certainly a glitch in the system and its picking up that voucher number again . Lets call this voucher number ABC - 011 & ABC - 012.

But by default based on the number sequencing it should be ABC-032 onwards.

We have a solution to fix this issue however don't know if its the right approach and if it has any negative effect on the previously posted GL journals.

When we navigate to the below page of the required journal name, This displays the list of  pre-allocated voucher numbers. The numbers from 32 onwards are expected. But we could still see ABC - 011 & ABC - 012 in this list.

The ABC-012 line is deleted from this list part of testing using ALT +F9. When creating a new journal ABC-012 is not there on the list due to this action and i could still see it on its previously poste GL. So far this line deletion didn't have any effect.

if this dont have any effect we are planning to do the same for ABC-011.

1. Is this the right approach to take?
2. Does it have any negative effects ?
3. Also; why it happened, is there something we can do to prevent this in future?
4.Did anyone have had this similar situation or any thoughts or comments?

    Hi.

Yes this is the right approach.

Set the number sequence to continuous instead of manual.

    Hi,

If you setup as continious , time to time this may happen.
If you really do not need this one to be continious, you may remove the parameter.

    Hi,

The way you are solving, that is the correct approach, however the way you want to avoid this issue it is a question.

Like Billur mentioned if you keep the option as Continous, this issue might arise again.

You can think of the number allocation at posting approach https://dynamicspedia.com/2017/12/temporary-voucher-functionality-dynamics-365/

Or you can disable the continous option, it wont ever come this situation, for this case the missed number sequence wont be used.

    Hi,
We also experience this and take the same approach. Have you received any other feedback? We are also trying to pinpoint the reasoning for this.

    Thank you!
