At what dimension level is the negative inventory not allowed?  Site, warehouse, location, serial number?  Assuming that the box is not checked.

 Thank you!!

Hi Brad- can you expand on this? What box do you assume is not checked?  As I'm sure you know- negative inventory (whether physical or financial)  is set on the model group whereas inventory dimension settings are defined on the inventory dimension group form

Whether negative inventory is allowed or not is not dictated by settings in the inventory dimension group form. However all nine of the item and storage dimensions can be included in physical and financial inventory.

    Thanks for your reply Craig,

We have left the physical inventory box unchecked on the model group, which should mean that inventory should not be negative.  However we are seeing negative inventory at the warehouse, location and serial number level.  Is something setup in the dimension settings allowing for the negative inventory?

    Thanks

    Brad

    Hi Brad,

Dimension settings have no bearing on whether an item's inventory level can go negative. It is quite difficult to get in this situation without someone selecting the physical negative inventory checkbox and then changing it back again (It happens- so best to prevent access to this).

If you are certain that no-one has done this (either accidentally or on purpose) then some other reasons could be that changes have been made at database level, or that you have a modification or add on solution that is bypassing this validation.

On a final note- are you sure the item is physically negative on hand? i.e the Available physical field is <0?

The reason I ask is that the "Total available" field can display a negative value if you have more demand than supply (eg. More sales orders than stock and purchase orders can supply).

We are also seeing similar behavior at an AX client that has the model group setting unchecked.  To the best of my knowledge, it has not been checked by anyone at any time, and nobody is making changes to the database, so we should not have any negative inventory.  By looking at the inventory transactions, it appears that users are allowed to process transactions without the setting stopping the transaction, but I haven't duplicated the steps yet.  The client also has Process Industries.  Brad - Did you ever get a resolution to this question?

Hi There, I am faced with a similar issue too. Have any of you found a solution as yet?

I came across this website which gives a solution: objectmix.com/.../790533-physical-negative-inventory.html. The post is quite old so not sure if its relevant in AX2009.

I am going to test this and you let guys know if this is correct in AX2009

I tested the example as the website suggested, yes the posted stock goes into negative. Not your physical stock.

As the post explains, due to differences in the date postings and how AX works, if the dates of the transactions are back dated  posted stock will always go into negative

I have a problem which is I want to prevent the issuing for the item by date Example:

1- I created an item on 1/4/2014 and the current stock for it is 100

2- if I issued the item on old date 1/1/2014 the system allow me to issue the item as long as there is on hand on the current date so I want to prevent the issuing in the old date if there is no on hand in that date

    Hi Ahmed,

Did you get the solution of your problem. I am also facing the same issue.

Is there any way out to restrict the backdated transactions in ax 2012.
