Hi Everybody,

We can use procurement category to raise a purchase order or purchase requisition to purchase miscellaneous items and services.

Similarly we have the option to use Non-stocked item (Product type = service and Item model group = Non-stocked) to manage miscellaneous and service purchases.

Can you highlight the difference between using/mapping procurement categories or Non-stocked item?

Well procurement category have a very wide role in a company as such and depends to what extent company wants to use it.

Normally procurement category are used to link products of same nature in one node making it easy to manage and also defining the Category hierarchies will help the users in raising purchase requisition easily and helps the organization to restrict the items which can be procured and by which user.

Procurement categories gives companies to setup which items can be procured on purchase requisition by user. Also normally you link the released products to the procurement category as per there nature and so they are made available on the purchase requisition while users is ordering for items.

e.g We can make one node for shoes and add all the items (lets say company has 110) which are shoes in this category node and now if I setup the user only to be allowed to be able to order for shoe category so while he orders from the purchase requisition he will only see all 110 shoes to be selected giving business the ability to control procurement per user.

This way procurement category plays crucial role in item grouping and controlling procurement.

On the other hand a product type service represents a service procured and which should will never add to the stock of the company.

So the stocked check mark should never be checked for a service as it is only meant to be expended and not to be tracked in inventory.

In addition: If you have (service) items, you can use trade agreements which is not available for categories.

Hi All,

I have a query. Can we create trade agreement with Procurement categories. My client is using Procurement category for making all purchases as they dont need any service item or stock item.Everything they buy directly go to expenses. Is there any way to set Trade agreement on purchase category itself.
