    Yes,

Because at this point your GP databases will all have been updated to the latest version (2018 or 18.2) and you'll no longer be able to use the 2015 & 2016 clients anyway.

It sounds like you never went thru a GP upgrade by yourself.. when in doubt, you should really ask for help from your partner or any seasoned GP consultant.. The forums aren't really the place to cover a full (multi-version) upgrade process.. this would take way too much time to explain in details. There is more than just installing various versions of GP clients and run GP Utilities..

Yes, once you get upgraded to 18.2.xxxx for Dynamics GP, along with any modified forms or reports dictionary files, you won't need the GP 2015 or GP 2016 installs any longer, so you can uninstall those.

    Thanks

Thats the answer that i was looking for. Thanks So once i do upgrade to GP 2016 and then GP 2018 i can safely remove GP2015 and GP2016 clients with out any issues.

    Thanks

So, then the error message makes completely sense :-)

You can't apply a service pack of version 16.xxx to a GP 2015 client.

You need first to update your 2015 client to the build suggested by Derek (14.00.1230), before you then update your GP to 2016. The upgrade can only take place once you have done a full client install of GP 2016, whichever build you chose. You can't mix up GP builds and service packs.

My GP location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP2015

There is no GP2016 folder cause there is no 2016 product installed.

    Bill is correct,

Try copy the KB file (service pack) locally before executing.. But since the service packs are .MSP or .MSI files, it could also be a corrupt setup of your Windows MSI installer code.

As for the default location of the GP folder, I've seen companies installing them in a complete different place (like D:\Dynamics Great Plains\GP ) and then running into issues with ISV products..

Check in the Control Panel of the workstation to see if the GP client and corresponding Dexterity libraries are installed first, before applying the service pack.

I would think that you might need to copy the patch onto the workstation - I have had issues with patches when they are saved to a server and then you attempt to install to a local workststation.

The other possibility is that the patch is looking for a folder that you do not have on the computer - you would likely need to have a GP2016 folder inside your Microsoft Dynamics folder on the machine.  The location of which could be in a number of places depending on how or who did the orginal installation.

By default it is likely in the [DRIVE LETTER]:Programs Folder (x86) and then all bets are off ( could be anywhere )

Post more details as you work through this and the community will be here to assist.

When i try to run the KB4528417 16.00.0814 i get this message.

The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program.

    Thanks

    RE: Trying to Upgrade GP2015 R2 to 2018 R2

    Hello Alvaidas,

Because you are on the 2019 year end version for Dynamics GP 2015 R2, which is 14.00.1230, the ONLY supported upgrade path is to go to the equivalent 2019 year-end version of Dynamics GP 2016, which is 16.00.0814, then you can upgrade to the equivalent 2019 year-end version of Dynamics GP, which would be 18.2.1036 or later. Our latest release is 18.2.1060 as you mentioned.

The best way to remember the upgrade paths (along with using the hot topics), is that if you're currently on the mid-year or year-end release for GP version A, you must be upgrading to the equivalent or later mid-year or year-end release of GP version B.

There's been confusion recently, due to the moving to 18.2.xxxx and not using the same 16.0, 18.0 versions that we have been doing.

In the case of being on 14.00.1230, neither the hot topic to Upgrade to Dynamics GP 2018 nor Upgrade to Dynamics GP show this version as any valid upgrade path, so hopefully this helps answer your questions.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thank you,
