Project management- Timesheet functionality. implications if project manager changes the customer on the main project.

Hi,

Version: AX 2012 R3.

Project manager role is assigned to the user and he has added work breakdown on project and users are submitting timesheets using EP portal according to the assigned activities.

If project manager changes the customer on project in project form then what are the implications as this will invalidate the old submitted timesheets against this project?

I have tested by changing the customer on project and if any timesheet has not be submitted then customer will be auto updated on the timesheet line if user try to submit the timesheet.

So what are the implications of changing the customer on existing project in project form?

Is there a way to stop the user to change the customer on project form  while assigning him any particular role which must include creating the breakdown for project timesheets as well?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

We have decided to make the customer account field on the project form un editable for every one. Change is made on form level datasource table field to make it un-editable. if user creates a new project and add a wrong customer then he can delete the project and re-create a new one if there are no transactions posted. if he wants to change the customer on existing project then he can close/finish the project and create a new one for new customer.  Project Id is being created manually.

    HI Ludwig,

It is about changing customer on project form.  Project managers will create work breakdown so is there a way to stop them using a role as all other project roles can't create work break down if assigned. I have tried other project roles and customer is disabled for them on the project form but they can't create work breakdown so that will not solve the problem.

I think we might need to modify the project manager role to stop user to change the project manager or add customer change.

    thanks,

    Hi,

With changing the customer, do you refer to the account field in the project window or the customers setup in the project contract funding source section?

Have you tried assigning your users a role other than project manager to fix your issue?

Can you simply try hiding this field in the project window so that users cannot identify this field and change it anymore? (might require a minor code modification)

    Ludwig
