Numbers missing in number sequence

Hi,

We have created a number sequence for invoice numbers as part of our project , the number sequence mode is Non continuous with range from 1 to 99999. There was a strange issue we ran into... The numbers got generated from 1 to 120 fine and later the next numbers started from 140 onwards. We have no invoices generated at our source that we could trace back. [Unless we have a source initiation , AX would not generate the next number, is our understanding. We had similar setting since 3 years and we never had an issue with next number being out of sequence.

We checked Number sequence history if someone accidentally set the next number as 140 but there were no records found.

Any help is very much appreciated

    did you turn on caching

If you use a non-continuous number sequence, you can enable Preallocation on the Performance FastTab of the Number sequences form. When you specify a quantity of numbers to preallocate, the system selects those numbers and stores them in memory. New numbers are requested from the database only after the preallocated quantity has been used.

Non-continuous number sequences obviously don't guarantee continuity. If a number is allocated and not used (the record doesn't get saved by any reason), or if numbers are pre-fetched by AOS, you can get such gaps. That's normal and expected behavior.

Number sequences can be continuous or non-continuous. A continuous number sequence does not skip any numbers, but numbers may not be used sequentially. Numbers from a non-continuous number sequence are used sequentially, but the number sequence may skip numbers.

Above is the excerpt from AX product documentation . Given that a non continuous sequence may skip numbers, is there No way I can check why and when , if an event of missing numbers pops up? Because we have never faced this issue throughout our experience wih AX 2012

No, such things are not logged anywhere.

If you really need a continuous number sequence, use one. If you don't need a continuous sequence, just don't care about gaps.
