Cons of Analytical Accounting

Hi Guys,

I am trying to come up with a listing of why not to use AA.

Can you please help me add to my list?

-Management Reporter; generating reports require use of separate company

-Management Reporter; Data Mart requires more refreshing than normal

-All AA reports must be custom built

-Unable to obtain a default trial balance for AA code activity

-Data Entry can take longer as there are additional windows to complete

-Posting transactions can become more cumbersome as you also have to review the codes the transactions were assigned to.

-Setup takes longer; you need to create codes, nodes and assign accounts and security.

    Hello Ali,

We aren't normally asked this kind of question from a Support standpoint, and wouldn't normally dissuade users from using a particular module within Dynamics GP, unless it truly isn't a good fit for them.  With that said, I will leave the thread up for the community to comment on, as their experiences may help to answer your questions/fill out your list.

    Thank you,

    Hi Ali,

Your CON list is mostsl accurate excepy for 1 or 2 points.  For instance MR with AA does not require a separate company.  This may have been the case in older versions

On the other hand, in the absence of an equivalent tool that can do the same job, AA is very useful considering it is offered in the standard out-of-the-box license.

I remember an excellent article by MVP Mohammad Daoud of Dynamics Innovations which explained thoroughly in which situations AA was useful.  Please look it up.

The simple fact that you are asking the question indicates that you probably have a complex accounting and/or costing structure that you want to report on in your GL.

    Regards
