Modern Inspection Template

I'm using Dynamics 365 Field Service and trying to set up inspections as a non-technical user. I'm trying to figure out how to save data from an inspection back to list or Asset record. A consultant told me that the inspection template I’m using is based on the older “voice-of-the-customer–style” survey and that saving results directly to assets is difficult with that version. I did some research and found that the newer Modern Inspection Templates support writing inspection results back to Dataverse tables (including Assets), but it looks like this requires a version above 9.1. My system shows version 8.8, and I can’t find any way to update it. I've gone through every setting I can think of, and nothing changes and I have no additional prompts tell me there is an update available. I've checked and according to documentation this release should be available to me.  Does anyone know how I can access or enable the Modern Inspection Template so I can build a dynamic matrix that will allow my inspectors to lookup an account’s assets in the field from a list to document the equipment was inspected?  Right now, the inspection template available to me only allows a barcode scan field, which won’t work for what I need. Also—can anyone explain if there’s a reason why saving inspection results directly to an Asset (via an inspection form) isn’t recommended or considered a best practice? I want to make sure I’m using the right approach before I go too far down the wrong path. Thanks in advance for any guidance!

The ability to use Modern Inspections requires:

    1. Field Service v9.1+ installed in your environment

This is not updated through the app UI.
It comes through the Power Platform Admin Center → Resources → Dynamics 365 Apps → Field Service → Update.

    2. Your environment must be on a supported major platform version

If the environment is older (for example, a long-lived sandbox created pre-2022), Microsoft may block the update until the platform layer is upgraded by support.

    3. Modern Inspections require the “Field Service (Dynamics 365)” solution family, not the older PSA/Voice-Customer bundle.

Right now, your environment is basically frozen on the legacy package. That’s why there's no button inviting you to upgrade.
