External web service URL access not valid via a menu item

I am using an external web service.  I now have no problems accessing this via a Job but I cannot seem to access this via a menu item.  The error I get is that there is no service listening at that URL.  The only difference between the job and the method in the menu item that calls the service, is where it retrieves the xml to send.

Since I know the URL is correct (since the job works and I can access it via IE) I assume it must be something related to how AX accesses an URL from within.  Another hint may be that when I access our system via a different remote desktop connection that doesn't have IE activated on it, I can no longer see the web service via the job and get the same error message - hence my thinking that it must be due to the way AX acceses the URL.

Many thanks

Paulina

If your the job and the menu item call different code, comparing them doesn't make much sense. Call the same class from the job as you call by the menu item.

Note that jobs run on client, while the class called by your menu item may run on server (where such logic usually belongs). Running the same code on a completely different computer under a different account obviously may give different results.

Make you sure you create the service client correctly (AifUtil::createServiceClient()).

If you need more help from us, please tell us more about your code. That you have a menu item calling some code isn't sufficient. I also recommend using the debugger to collect more information about the runtime behaviour (where exactly it fails, the exact exception type, exact error message and so on).

Many thanks, that made me look at the setup of the server and it was sitting on a private network.  I now have access to the internet from the Batch server and it accesses the web service correctly.
