Dynamics 365 For Operations Build without LCS environment?

Hello, everyone!

I have a question about build service on D365FO.
I have next situation:
on LCS was deployed a standart DEV environment.

1. Is it possible to use DEV environment for build purposes?

2. Is it possible to manage build definition(VSTS) for DEV environment?

3. If not, is it possible to change DEV setups, so it could become a BUILD environment?

4. Is it possible to manage build for D365FO without using of environments on LCS?

Thank you!

So, officially no there is no way to do it. Realistically, if you have an actual build VM deployed elsewhere, you can get the C:\DynamicsSDK folder and manually deploy everything - blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../how-to-setup-build-agent-and-create-a-build-definition-manually

HOWEVER - if you've done any development on this box prior to "converting" it, you're going to have issues. Mainly you want to make sure no custom code of any kind exists on the box. It's too easy to not do that right. Best is to redeploy, but then you may as well deploy a build VM. Which begs the question - why WOULDN'T you just delete the dev box and deploy a new build box? All it takes is time, no effort.

    so:

1- yes, but not officially supported

2- not sure what you mean?

3- yes, but not officially supported and WHY? just redeploy?

4- yes, you can download the VHD dev box, it has the SDK on it already. Then just run the scripts as outlined by the blog post link I posted above.

    Hi Sir,

I am not sure if I get the answer right. I have similar challenge. I have one enterprise customer in China and they are NOT allow the Dynamics 365 FO connected to internet. Could I get my Dynamics 365 FO code updated without connecting LCS of Azure?

    Thank you very much.

Your questions is not really related to the original topic of this thread.

Anyway, you can bring code to a developer box by importing models.

But if you want to use version control, or import smaller pieces of code than models, you need to connect to VSTS.

Basically each time you import a model, you must first delete the pre-existing model of the same name in the dev environment.

So, you can't really do D365FFO development without an Internet connection.

Also, you can't deploy an on premises D365FFO environment without an internet connection, because you can only deploy from LCS. So, it's impossible to use D365FFO without an internet connection.
