Dear experts,
I am working on deploying Project Operations for resource/non-stocked scenarios, and have installed the project Operations solution in the dataverse development environment, without any connection to Finance. When adding a timeline to a main form on the project table we discovered that the project table was not by default enabled for activities. There is a wish to be able to track emails from Outlook, phone calls and other customer related contact activity on each project, so we are tempted to enable this in the settings of the table. Seeing as this is an irreversible change we want to ask if anyone know the potential pitfalls by doing this? We know that there very often is a reason behind the choices Microsoft does, and if other more important features will be affected we will reconsider our options. Seeing as the timeline is a standard feature on almost any other table we struggle to see why it is not so for the project table.
Best Regards
Merete
Hi Merete,
Off the top of my head I can't think of any downsides to this. Enabling a table for activities is a standard supported customization in Dataverse. My thinking is that enabling should be blocked by the related product team if it wasn't supported. That said, it's always important to commit customizations through proper ALM to test possible issues. You could spin up a temporary test environment where you can test your use cases before going through your regular dev -> test -> prod ALM.
Hi, used activities for around 4 years now at the project level.
I never understood that it is no default, everyone want to track
mails in a project context.
The change cannot be undone, but at my end we never saw an
issue. It will also enable SharePoint and OneDrive scenarios.
