Best Practices while restarting Dynamics NAV server 2009 with SP1 with inbuilt database

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I want to know what is the best practice to restart the Dynamics Navision Server 2009 with Sp1 ( inbuilt database ) on Windows 2008 R2 server . Do we need to stop the service before restarting and then start service after restart is completed ?

Last time when we restarted the service some of our clients which were connecting on TCP net type started giving network error and then they could connect only on TCPS.

I agree with other member to log out every user from NAV and then stop the services of NAV and restart the server.

I would recommend to stop the service first, then restart the server, then run the service.

Before you re-start services or servers make sure every user is logged out and make sure to check you sessions from NAV which should show only the NAS service session and your current session, if you find any other session just kill them and then restart the services. With NAV 2009 SP1 make sure you restart both NAV Service and NAV Web Service.

My suggestion is request users to exit from Dynamics NAV and then stop NAV service and then restart the server. Once the server is back on running you can start NAV service.

With this users will not get disturbed and also any ongoing postings will also not get disturbed.
