Can I clone a customer account?

We work in the education sector so each school has an account.

When they become an academy we have to create a new account and manually populate all the same data just under a slight different school name and a new number.

So can I clone the original so I’m simply just change the name and number ?

You can clone any records in Dynamics 365 CRM by using our 1 Click productivity app – Click2Clone.

    Thanks!

    Hey Kokulan

Even though roughly 2 years since you answered do you know if Microsoft reworked this, because when I follow you step I am not allowed to run it as it says my workflow contains an infinite loop.

    Hi

Please go to Settings -> Customisation and select Customise the system as shown in the screenshots below, this will open the default solution where you could do your customisation.

Under Processes, click new to Create Workflow and provide the details as shown in the example

    3113.ScreenClip-_5B00_198_5D00_.png

    ScreenClip-_5B00_200_5D00_.png

In the Workflow designer window, tick the workflow to run on-demand and also add the create account step as shown below

    0001.png

Once you added values from all the fields to copy, please save and close the Create step properties window and then activate the workflow

If you completed all the above steps, your workflow should now be ready to clone account record. Please see the screenshots below to know how you could run the workflow to clone account

You could use the advance find, find the account you want to clone and run the workflow against that record as shown below

    7345.ScreenClip-_5B00_207_5D00_.png

After few seconds, you should now see the new cloned account as well

    Hope this helps

    Hi Kokulan,

Thank you for your very fast response. I did reply to the email that came through but it has since said it wont show in the thread.

If you have the screen shots they would be very useful please.

I am totally new to CRM, I have had inhouse training to know how to use it for data input and to search customers but that is it. We have an experienced user but he is not available most the time to help.

    Many thanks Chris

    Hi

The short answer is YES you can clone the account. There are many approaches to cloning a record in CRM.

If you would like to go for a no code solution, the simplest approach would be to create a Workflow on account entity that is configured to run On-Demand

In this workflow, you can use a Create record step to create a new account and in this step, you can copy field values from the current account.

Once you completed and activated this workflow, you can then go to the account you want to clone, and click on Run Workflow and then select the workflow you created and then run that.

If you go back to Accounts View, you should now see the cloned new account.

If you are completely new to CRM, let me know if you need any screenshots/resource links to get started
