Issue with SSRS Report Deployment in Visual Studio 2022 (PU40)

ReportReport

Hello everyone,

I am currently experiencing an issue with SSRS report development using Visual Studio 2022, specifically on platform update 40 (PU40). The steps to reproduce the problem are as follows:

  1. Open the report designer.
  2. Make a modification to the report.
  3. Deploy the report.
  4. Verify that the modification is correctly reflected.
  5. Return to the design mode.
  6. Make another modification to the report.
  7. Deploy the report again.

The issue arises at step 7, where the second modification does not get reflected after deployment. Upon further investigation, I noticed that the underlying XML file does not get updated during the second deployment.

To summarize:

  • The first modification is successfully deployed and visible.
  • Subsequent modifications are not reflected in the deployment.
  • The underlying XML file remains unchanged after the second modification and deployment.
Only think i saw works is completely close file on visual Studio and re open it, i saw infact first change and not the second one.

Has anyone else encountered this issue or have any insights on why Visual Studio might stop updating the XML file after the first modification? Any suggestions or workarounds would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Best regards,
Diego

    Hi,

Did the second deployment finish successfully? Did you try to do full build and Sync for your model?

    Thanks,

I have the same problem. You don't even need to deploy the report, after the first save all subsequent saves are not persisted and you lose your work

    Hi,

I have the exact problem.  The work around so far is to use VS 2019 to redeploy yout report after changes.

I had the same problem in (PU39). Yes, the answer is to run VS2019 when working with report designs.

Still no solution for this issue ? As visual studio extensions are no longer shipped or supported on visual studio versions prior to 2022, it will be more and more difficult to stay in 2019 version...

    Hi Diego,

I have faced this issue before. Simply restarting the SQL Reporting service worked for me.

Extreme cases, I delete the report from the reporting server and redeploy.

Kindly let me know if it works for you.

    Thanks

I just installed the new OneBox for F&O with version 10.0.41 and the problem is still there.
It's impossibile to develop a report.
    Anyone has a solution?

    I've got the same issue.

My annoying work around is to open VS2022 for all code modifications and VS2019 to modify the report.
And the deployment of the report I'm still doing in VS2022.

The problem in VS2022 only the first modification is written in the XML folder. The second and later not.
Turn out that closing the design, open the design, close it again, open it again and you're able to save a modification. This is not workable. Use VS2019.

    It's so annoying!

    Great testing Microsoft! NOT!

Hey everyone, I am also facing the same problem when we upgraded the cloud-hosted development environment from PU40 to PU42. As part of the PU42 upgrade, we installed VS 2022. However, we are now facing the previously mentioned issue with SSRS report development.

I could not find the D365 FO extension in VS 2019, which is preventing me from working on report designing. Since this extension is already installed in VS 2022, I am unable to see it in VS 2019.

Shall I manually install the extension in VS 2019? I hope it will not prevent me from using VS 2022 for other development activities. Kindly share your thoughts.

I tried to check if it is possible to install the D365 Finance extension manually on VS 2019, but it seems that it is not possible.

Can anyone help me use both VS 2022 and VS 2019 on the same machine?

    Regards,
    Manikanda Gopal
