Dimension Totaling

Posted on by 132

As an example, if I set up my Dimension Values for Global Dimension 1 REGION as follows:

1000 SOUTH Begin-Total

1200 SOUTHWEST Standard

1400 SOUTHCENTR Standard

1600 SOUTHEAST Standard

2000 SOUTH End-Total  1000..1999

I don't seem to be able to use my Dimension Value 2000.

Whenever I select it in my Limit Total the system applies the actual value of 2000, which makes the whole hierarchy pointless, since my actual postings, of course, are made against Standard Dimension Values.

It happens even in Analysis View and Account Schedule.

Am I doing something wrong? How can I get the system to apply the totaling value 1000..1999 instead of 2000?

    Hi Boris,

do you have a screen shot of your filter? Do you apply the value in the Dimension 1 totaling of the line or column layout line? From a short look into the code, dimension values of the type Total and End-Total are resolved with the totaling filter of this dimension vale. IOW: Should work.

I can't show you the screenshots I am afraid, I only gave an example, and I don't want to show the actual customer data.

I tried to add it everywhere I could possibly find.

It definitely doesn't work if you just apply it as "Limit totals to..." - it simply applies 2000 so no values are displayed on Pages or Reports, because actual postings are made to 1200, 1400 and 1600.

I tried adding 2000 as Dimension 1 Filter in Account Schedule (Lines and Column Layouts) and Analysis Views with the same zero success.

When I have a minute I will try and replicate it in CRONUS.

    Hi Boris,

now I get what you mean. "Limit totals to..." is the new caption of the flow filter. :) Flow filters don't have code to resolve the totalings, the name is plainly misleading in this case. However, I would recommend not to use any additional filters or flow filters with an account schedule. Better to create a more sophisticated account schedule (in the lines) or in the column layout. There are totaling fields for four dimensions there, where you can enter a string. And this string is resolved as described above.

I guess yes, the simple workaround will be to use the filter exactly as specified in Totaling field for 2000 in my example, that is 1000..1999. I just don't understand what is the point of having the Dimension Value hierarchy and where and how it can be used...

    Hi Boris

it works fine in Analysis by Dimensions (Analysis View) when selecting that dimension code in 'Show as Lines'. When applying a filter, as you say, it doesn't work well, though fixed in NAV2016

Thanks Robertas - I tried it earlier and I thought it didn't work, but I managed to get it to work second time round.
