Windows 11 and Dynamics GP Screen locked up

Has anyone had issues with Windows 11 and Dynamics GP where the screen locks up and have you been able to resolve the problem. The client has experienced the lock up during a payroll check run.  This is on a GP 18.5 install.

I have the same question (0)

I have not, and have worked with many GP environments utilizing GP 18.5 and Windows 11. My guess is that it's locked up because of SQL activity ongoing during posting process that client is waiting for a response on and not getting (because SQL is still churning). May need to run SQL Profiler during a posting process filtered by the user you're logged in as to see if posting process is stuck in some sort of loop or just churning through a large amount of data. If you get the "Not responding" on the GP window, I would bet that's what's going on.

    Hey LongTimeGPandSL,

Did this start to occur after a version change of GP? If so, I would do the following to see if it makes a change or not. Especially if the lockups are happening during the report printing process.

    1. Export any customizations that you have.
      1. Dynamics GP | Tools | Customize | Customization Maintenance
      2. Select all in this window.
      3. Click Export.
      4. Choose a name and location.
      5. Click Save
      6. Close the window.
    2. Rename the Reports and forms.dic to Reports.dic.old and forms.dic.old.
      1. This is normally located in the GP Code folder. If it is shared, you will need to determine where it is held at.
    3. Now synchronize the Forms and Reports.
      1. Open the Dex.ini.
        1. This is located in the Data folder in the GP Code Folder
      2. Change the SYNCHRONIZATION line from FALSE to TRUE and save the changes and close the window.
      3. Start Great Plains Utilities. To do this, follow the appropriate step:
      4. In Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 and higher versions, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Dynamics, point to GP 10.0 (or appropriate version), and then click Utilities
      5. In Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Dynamics, point to GP 9.0, and then click Utilities.
      6. In Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains 8.0, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Business Solutions, point to Great Plains, and then click Great Plains Utilities.
      7. In the Additional Tasks window, click Synchronize forms and reports dictionaries, and then click Process.
      8. Locate the Dynamics.set file on the client computer, and then click Next.
    4. Import your Modified Reports into a new Reports.dic.
      1. This gets created when you import.
      2. Dynamics GP | Tools | Customize | Customization Maintenance
      3. Click Import.
      4. Point to the package file from step 1.
    5. Determine if you still have the issues.

If the above does not help, the next thing I would have you do is rebuild the GP Code Folder by renaming and running a repair so we get a new code folder without third parties and test with that. If it works now, add one back at a time to determine if one of them is the cause. If you use a template to install GP on multiple Machines, its best to download a new installer and use that instead of the template. I have seen template installs cause problems.

    I hope this helps!

    Thank you!
