Hello,

We know how to use Territories on the Price Lists in Dynamics 365 Sales. But we have few questions about this functional:

1) What are the restrictions on the use of territories for users from another territory?

2) Can we use Territories on custom entities?

3) Can we set up restrictions and rules for using territories on custom entities?

Thank you for vyour help!

Best regards,

Anna

Using Territories in Dynamics 365 Sales
    Hello,

I'll be glad to assist you with your questions regarding the use of territories in Dynamics 365 Sales:

Restrictions on the use of territories for users from another territory: By default, users in Dynamics 365 Sales can only see and interact with records within their assigned territories. If a user belongs to Territory A, they will typically have access to the records (such as accounts, contacts, and opportunities) that are associated with Territory A. They will not have access to records associated with other territories unless they are granted specific privileges or assigned to multiple territories. This ensures that users operate within their designated territories and have a clear focus on their assigned customer base.

Use of Territories on custom entities: Yes, you can use territories on custom entities in Dynamics 365 Sales. The same territory management functionality can be extended to custom entities you create within the system. This allows you to define territories, assign records to territories, and control user access based on these territories for both standard and custom entities.

Setting up restrictions and rules for using territories on custom entities: You can set up restrictions and rules for using territories on custom entities using the same principles applied to standard entities. This includes defining the territories, establishing rules for territory assignment, and configuring user access based on territories. Dynamics 365 Sales provides configuration options, such as workflows, business rules, and security roles, that can be utilized to enforce these restrictions and rules on custom entities.

I recommend referring to the official Microsoft Dynamics 365 documentation or consulting with a certified Dynamics 365 partner for the most up-to-date information on territory management and its application to custom entities.

    Best regards!

RE: Using Territories in Dynamics 365 Sales

    Hello Haig Liu,

    Thank you for your answer.

So, can you tell me, please, can we build automation with Territory (like on the Price Lists) on custom entities or we need to use code?

    Best regards,

    Anna Melnychenko

RE: Using Territories in Dynamics 365 Sales

    Hi Anna Melnychenko,

    1)

You can't allocate the same user to multiple territories. If you need to assign a user to a larger area (more than one existing territory), create a new territory that includes the existing territories, and then assign the user to that new territory.

A user can belong to only one territory, and we can set a default price list for each sales territory, otherwise dynamic sales will apply the product's default price list.

    2)

You can construct many-to-one and many-to-many relationships between custom entities and territories and create corresponding lookup fields on form.

    3)

If custom entities and Territory = N:1, then each custom entity has a lookup field of Territory. But one custom entity can only match one Territory, one Territory can match multiple custom entities.
If custom entities and Territory = N:N, then each custom entity has a sub-grid of Territory. So one custom entity can only match multiple Territory, one Territory can match multiple custom entities.
