If you're asking about how to communicate with the scales, we can't tell you that, because we know nothing about your scales. You'll need to consult its documentation or talk to the producer and ask what API is available.

We can help you with finding such information only if you tell us the brand and the particular type.

There is little point in talking about interation with F&O until you can communicate with the scales locally.

    Hi Martin,

We are using FairBank scale that will be connected via usb. On click of button in D365 fo form ,we have to fetch the weight of item kept on scale.

Then go to fairbanks.com to download manuals, software and to request support. You'll also need to know the model of your scales, not just the producer.

    Hi Martin,

I am able to communicate with scale from c# project now I need to pass that the weight to D365 fo on click of button

Can you start by explaining your business scanario? Who will press the button, when and what do you expect to happen?

For example, if you put something on scales and press the button, maybe you want to trigger a measurement and send the result back to F&O. But you said that you just want to "pass the weight" and forgot about do a measurement.

Or maybe you periodically measure the weight and now you want to read the reasult of the latest measurement (without triggering a new one).

The user put some item on scale then click a button in D365 Fo to get the weight and update a field in D365 fo table. captures the weight directly from the scale and enters the Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations table.

Currently we are able to capture the weight using c# using Hid library. Now we have to update this weight to specific trans table suppose some table that have recid 0001 in D365.

We have one approach is to use  a window service that will communicate with scale and D365 fo using Odata and for specific record we can send message in service bus queue to update the field of button in D365 fo form.

Do you have any other approach like hybrid connection. can we use in this scenario?

Sure, there always are other solutions. An infinite number of them. The question is which one would meet your requirements the best and that - obviously - depends on your requirements.

The first approach I would consider is having an on-premise service exposing a web service (that's what you probably mean by the Windows service and OData) that would use the scales and returned a response. You could use some kind of reverse proxy to call this web service from Azure. But there are many other ways.

Can you brief some other option too if possible? That will help us to optimize our solution. Thank you so much for replying.

For example, a request may be put to a message queue that your on-premise system will monitor. With this design, F&O doesn't it know anything about your on-premise system and your on-premise system doesn't need to know anything about F&O. They'll exchange message through message queues.
