Can't select Teams as a Webinar or Webcast provider any more? Apparently a licensing issue.

Posted on by 45

Hi All,

I'm working through the Events setup and one of the first steps is being able to select Teams as your webinar or webcast streaming provider.

But when i select Teams, a warning appears regarding licensing and the fact that i do not have a valid Teams streaming license, and advises me to contact my IT administrator.

But our admin has indicated that I have a valid Teams license.

I can't even select Teams in the Event setup any longer, it seems.

Is there a specific teams license that i need in order to run events with the product?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Eddy, apologies for the delay on this. I can now confirm that apparently the license I have is an E5 license? Which as i understand it, has greater access than the E1 or the E3 licenses. We're not quite sure how to proceed on this, if you could advise.

Hi Stripey - There are different tiers for valid Teams licenses and you must have one that supports creating a Teams Live Meeting in order to utilize Teams as your webinar provider.

This is documented in the below Microsoft Teams documentation (E1-E5). I would ask if your Admin can verify that your Teams license is a valid license for hosting a live meeting.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/quick-start-meetings-live-events#get-licenses-for-meetings-and-live-events

Please do let me know and we can pursue this further if the license is in fact a valid license.

Also, are you able to create a live meeting from within Microsoft Teams?

    Thanks,

    Eddy
