Dynamics Nav 2009 and Exchange 2013 (OnPremises)

We are using exchange 2013 and Microsoft Dynamics 2009.

I am trying to use the smtp setup which is currently pushing our emails out through the gfi address. Users have reported a 30 second delay when using this smtp method.

I would like to setup NAV so that emails could be sent through our exchange 2013 server. I have went into SMTP setup and changed to mail.xxxxx.com and sent a test email but I am presented with the following error:

"The SMTP mail system returned the following error: (0x8004020F): The server rejected one or more of the recipient addresses. The server response was 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay"

I then followed the link http://exchangeserverpro.com/exchange-2013-configure-smtp-relay-connector/

I am trying to send emails through the smtp from saleorder@xxx.com (whom I have send on behalf of rights).

When I put my login details into the smtp - it send the email

When I put in SalesOrder login details - it crashes

When I set it as anonymous - it crashes

    Hi,

    You can use the salesorder@xxx.com with authentication type as basic and you need to enter the correct password as well for the authentication purpose.

    Best Regards,

    MMV

    Thanks MMV,

    I have tried it with the email and password but the NAV SMTP Mail Setup sits for a while then goes to Not Responding

    But does it send the mail and the recipient able to receive it?

    No it doesn't send the mail.

    I am going to strip all the settings out of exchange again and reconfigure using the link  exchangeserverpro.com/exchange-2013-configure-smtp-relay-connector and selecting the external relay method.

    Is this the best method or do you see any issues with it?

    I don't see any issue in this.  As long as you are able to send the mail, it should be ok.

    I experienced the same error for the last couple of days. I realized that I changed the relay configuration to "authenticated users" only and the server wasn't working as I expected.

    To solve the problem I did the following steps:

    Open the Exchange System Manager;

    Go in Administrative Groups -> Administrative group name -> Server -> Server name -> Protocols -> SMTP;

    Right click on Default SMTP Virtual Server -> properties;

    Access tab -> Relay buttom;

    Select "only the list bellow" and add your domain and\or IPs you do want to allow the relay

    and finally check  the "Allow all computers witch successfully authenticate to relay, regardless of the list above" checkbox.

    Thanks for the help MMV.

    No sure why this helped - but I created a new user in AD and used it for the SMTP and emails are sending ok
